In Poland, it&nbsp;entered into&nbsp;force on 26 June&nbsp;1937. These documents&nbsp;are the result&nbsp;of international&nbsp;efforts to gradually&nbsp;codify nationality&nbsp;law and to introduce&nbsp;mechanisms eliminating&nbsp;cases of statelessness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Essence of&nbsp;the Convention<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Convention\u00a0reaffirms the\u00a0sovereign right\u00a0of a state to\u00a0define its own\u00a0concept of nationality, while at the\u00a0same time respecting\u00a0obligations arising\u00a0under international\u00a0law.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It regulates\u00a0issues relating\u00a0to conflicts\u00a0of nationality\u00a0and the concept\u00a0of dual nationality, particularly\u00a0in relation to\u00a0third states. This includes\u00a0a principle allowing\u00a0a third state\u00a0to treat a person\u00a0with multiple\u00a0nationalities\u00a0as possessing\u00a0only one \u2013 usually\u00a0the one connected\u00a0with the place\u00a0of habitual residence\u00a0or stronger ties.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It recognizes\u00a0the possibility\u00a0of renouncing\u00a0a nationality\u00a0acquired without\u00a0the individual\u2019s consent \u2013 provided\u00a0that another\u00a0state grants\u00a0nationality and\u00a0the conditions\u00a0established by\u00a0law are fulfilled.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It also\u00a0takes into account\u00a0particular aspects\u00a0of nationality\u00a0in cases involving\u00a0women after marriage, the naturalization of children, or adoption, introducing\u00a0rules determining\u00a0loss, retention, or acquisition\u00a0of nationality\u00a0depending on\u00a0specific circumstances.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The Protocol&nbsp;complements the&nbsp;Convention by&nbsp;guaranteeing&nbsp;the acquisition&nbsp;of nationality&nbsp;for a child born&nbsp;in a state that&nbsp;does not grant&nbsp;nationality by&nbsp;birth, if the&nbsp;mother holds&nbsp;the nationality&nbsp;of that state&nbsp;and the father&nbsp;is either a national&nbsp;or of unknown&nbsp;nationality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although the&nbsp;Convention and&nbsp;the Protocol&nbsp;are historical&nbsp;documents, their&nbsp;importance for&nbsp;the development&nbsp;of international&nbsp;standards on&nbsp;nationality remains&nbsp;unchanged.
