The Austro-Hungarian agreement of 1867 transformed the Austrian Empire into a dualistic monarchy consisting of an Austrian part – the so-called Pre-Lithuania and a Hungarian part – the so-called Zalitavia. The Polish lands were basically entirely in the Austrian part. The only exceptions were Spiš and Orava, which were in the Hungarian part. In this sense, we can speak of the so-called Hungarian partition.
Under the Treaty of Tranion signed in Versailles on 4 June 1920, these lands were officially returned in Poland. In this way, Poland gained about 580 km2 of area and about 24 thousand population
